Close linkage of eye color genes in Tribolium castaneum.

چکیده
N the course of linkage studies involving several new mutations affecting eye I pigmentation in the flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum, it became apparent that while being nonallelic to each other and to previously reported eye mutants they were not randomly distributed in the genome. In fact, of the nine eye mutant loci thus far reported, six occur as colsely linked members of three gene pairs. It is the purpose of this report to present these new linkage relationships in T. castaneum and to discuss the nonrandom distribution of these genes in terms of their apparent locational-functional relationships.

Cloning and characterization of the Tribolium castaneum eye-color genes encoding tryptophan oxygenase and kynurenine 3-monooxygenase.
The use of eye-color mutants and their corresponding genes as scorable marker systems has facilitated the development of transformation technology in Drosophila and other insects. In the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum, the only currently available system for germline transformation employs the exogenous marker gene, EGFP, driven by an eye-specific promoter. To exploit the advantages offe...
متن کاملThe ABCs of eye color in Tribolium castaneum: orthologs of the Drosophila white, scarlet, and brown Genes.
In Drosophila melanogaster, each of the three paralogous ABC transporters, White, Scarlet and Brown, is required for normal pigmentation of the compound eye. We have cloned the three orthologous genes from the beetle Tribolium castaneum. Conceptual translations of Tribolium white (Tcw), scarlet (Tcst), and brown (Tcbw) are 51, 48, and 32% identical to their respective Drosophila counterparts. W...

In this study, various doses of plant extracts that obtained from Bolanthus turcicus was applied to an important storage pest Tribolium castaneum adults. Bolanthus turcicus is an endemic species and spreads on the Hasan Mountain above Karkın town (Turkey, Aksaray province). The plant species was collected from June to July with the field study to be carried out in thi...
متن کاملTubulin superfamily genes in Tribolium castaneum and the use of a Tubulin promoter to drive transgene expression.
The use of native promoters to drive transgene expression has facilitated overexpression studies in Drosophila and other insects. We identified 12 Tubulin family members from the genome sequence of the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum, and used the promoter from one of these to drive constitutive expression of a transgene. The activity of the T. castaneum alpha-Tubulin1 (TcalphaTub1) putat...
متن کاملFine-scale analysis of parasite resistance genes in the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum.
Parasite infection impacts population dynamics through effects on fitness and fecundity of the individual host. In addition to the known roles of environmental factors, host susceptibility to parasites has a genetic basis that has not been well characterized. We previously mapped quantitative trait loci (QTL) for susceptibility to rat tapeworm (Hymenolepis diminuta) infection in Tribolium casta...
